This August, Greenpeace Activist and Project Leader John Bowler will be coming in to speak on the topic of how Activists are NOT Criminals.

| Hi Everyone. This month, Green Drinks has the honour of announcing Greenpeace activist John Bowler as its guest speaker. John Bowler has been an activist with Greenpeace for almost 25 years and is currently a Project Leader with Greenpeace’s Forest campaign, focusing primarily on the global political requirements to save the world’s forests. Prior to working with Greenpeace, John worked for many other environmental organisations. Environmental organisations and activists play an essential role in today's world. Their service to the political system, while often inconvenient to politicians, should not be underestimated. However, there is an increasing and disturbing trend to answer civil disobedience and peaceful protest with criminal prosecution, and using harsh, disproportionate punishments as a means of stifling dissent, and restricting freedom of expression. On the first Tuesday of August, John Bowler will elaborate his views on how governments inappropriately use the legal system to mute the voices of those who oppose their environmental policies. This Green Drinks is a unique opportunity to learn about the intricacies and corollaries of environmental organisations in today’s political climate. Mark the 3rd of August in your calendar and join us for a night sure to be full of engrossing debates and distinct point of views. As usual, Green Drinks will be held on the first Tuesday of the month on the top floor of Messrs Maguire and FREE vegetarian food platters will be available afterwards.
